Statement by the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB) on the distribution of responsibilities among its members for the business areas of the ECB

Both the General Council and the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) held meetings today.

Mr. Rudolf Edlinger, in his capacity as President of the Council of the European Union, and Mr. Yves Thibault de Silguy, Member of the European Commission, attended both meetings.

Following the next meeting of the Governing Council, which is to be held on Friday, 11 September 1998, the President of the European Central Bank will provide information on the outcome of the meetings of the Governing Council and the General Council held in September 1998. The press conference will be held at 6 p.m. (C.E.T.) in the Arabella Grand Hotel in Frankfurt. Invitations to attend the press conference will be distributed shortly.
